Southern Sundays: "Lost Lake" by Sarah Addison Allen | Table7 Events

Wedding planners often get asked, "Where do you find inspiration?"  My reply, "Where don't I!"  I have been doing homework with my son and a word from his vocabulary list jumps out or I can be walking through Target and there is a home decor piece that catches my eye.  You never know when that creativity bug will bite.

I do have a little secret though, books!  As you may have guessed by the blog series, I love the South and I love to read anything based on the history, the geography, the southern people, but I love the way southerns tell a story.  Their tales have such a magical quality, that you get sucked in and hang on to every detail.

Now, there are a lot of phenomenal southern authors:  Fannie Flagg, Charlaine Harris, Sue Monk Kidd,  but Sarah Addison Allen has my heart.  The stories she tells are full of everything I love:  baking, gardening, hospitality, strong family roots, and a hint of magic in all of her characters.  Her writing style is so imaginative that you can feel the humidity on your skin and smell the cheddar biscuits baking in the oven.

In her newest release, "Lost Lake," Sarah Addison Allen doesn't cease to amaze my love for her and her story telling.  My husband lost me to the swamplands once again.

"Lost Lake" by Sarah Addison Allen:

"Suley, Georgia, is home to Lost Lake Cottages and not much else. Which is why it's the perfect place for newly-widowed Kate and her eccentric eight-year-old daughter Devin to heal. Kate spent one memorable childhood summer at Lost Lake, had her first almost-kiss at Lost Lake, and met a boy named Wes at Lost Lake. It was a place for dreaming. But Kate doesn't believe in dreams anymore, and her Aunt Eby, Lost Lake's owner, wants to sell the place and move on. Lost Lake's magic is gone. As Kate discovers that time has a way of standing still at Lost Lake can she bring the cottages—and her heart—back to life? Because sometimes the things you love have a funny way of turning up again. And sometimes you never even know they were lost . . . until they are found."

A favorite line of mine from the book:

Cypress knees...  I want to go see these for myself:

There is a short prequel to "Lost Lake" as well, "Waking Kate."

"From the beloved author of Garden Spells, comes Waking Kate, a story about a woman who soon will face an unforeseen change in her life. One sticky summer day  as Kate is waiting for her husband to come home from his bicycle shop, she spots her distinguished neighbor returning from his last day of work after  eighty-six years at Atlanta’s oldest men’s clothing store. Over a cup of butter coffee, he tells Kate a story of love and heartbreak that makes her remember her past, question her present, and wonder what the future will bring."

In "Waking Kate," she sits down with a man and he serves her buttered coffee, which sounds amazing and looks incredible.

Here's the recipe via Food Wolf:

1 heaping tablespoon of Kerrygold Butter

2 cups of coffee
Optional: 1 tablespoon of agave
and/or 1 tablespoon of coconut oil*
Heat the container you are going to froth your coffee and butter in with hot boiling water. Dump the water.
Put the coffee and the butter into a hot mug or hot blender. Wait 10-15 seconds for the butter to butter melt. If adding sweetener, add it before blending the beverage. Froth the coffee (either with a hand held frother or a blender). Serve immediately.
*When you add the coconut oil and butter to your coffee, it’s called a Bulletproof Coffee"
We'd love for you to join us on Good Reads to see what our current Southern obsession may be, and we would love for you to suggest your favorites!!!

See y'all next Sunday!
